North Karelia College Outokumpu






North Karelia College Outokumpu is one of the eight colleges of the North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium. The college is located in Outokumpu, North Karelia, between the cities of Joensuu and Kuopio.


The college offers versatile education for both young people and adults. All vocational qualifications require three years of study and have the scope of 180 competence points.


In the North Karelia College Outokumpu there are approximately 600 students from all over Finland. The students are looked after by a staff of about 60 full time employees and several guest lecturers. Among the students there are students with special needs. We support students´ learning also by common non-vocational education and support working life and the regional development by improving all branches of industries in North Karelia. Teaching and development work with the community's vitality and the possibilities of its inhabitants are arranged in co-operation with our interest groups.


The vocational qualifications offered in Outokumpu are Practical Nurse, Machinist, Artisan - Crafts and design, Dancer, Visual Artisan, Audiovisual Communication - Media Assistant (Photography and Graphic Design, Game Development, Theatre and Event Technology, Sound Production, Radio and TV production and 3D production).

Is the organization whose main function is to provide qualified vocational education in the county of North Karelia. The mission of the North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium is to develop vocational expertise for the benefit of North Karelia, taking both the working life and the individual into consideration.


Our units contain 5610 students and a staff of app. 880 including 600 teachers. The sites for educational establishments are in Joensuu (on two campuses), Kitee, Lieksa, Outokumpu, Nurmes, Valtimo and Niittylahti.


The most important types of education are vocational education and training (upper secondary level), adult education, vocational further and supplementary education and training, labor policy education, apprenticeship training, common non-vocational education, and Summer University teaching.


North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium has been awarded by the Ministry of Education 2004 and 2008: The Quality Award of Vocational Education and Training.


In the National Skills Competition FinnSkills we have been among the top performers and educational providers 2005–2011.


The Consortium is also partner and owner in some development organizations like Joensuu Science Park.
